In Tübingen, there have been two placement centres for South-North volunteers since 2014/15 and three since 2019/20. The volunteers complete their voluntary service in kindergartens.

The application period for the July 25 to August 26 cycle is closed. The corresponding calls for applications are sent out to our partner organisations in August/September of the previous year. Our partner organisations – in Peru, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, Uganda and Ghana – will send out the call for applications to their respective circles in order to be able to complete a voluntary service through the weltwärts programme (and evivo as the host organisation). We would like our volunteers to have a connection to our partner organisation, as this is one of the selection criteria for volunteering in Germany.

Micaela from Sauce in Argentina talks about her time in Tübingen:

Work place:

The „Carlo Steeb“ children’s centre is located in Tübingen, a city in southern Germany. And it belongs to the Catholic church „St Michael“. There are five groups there, each named after a colour. Each group has its own room for playing, sleeping, reading, eating and other activities. There is a large garden where all the children can play. Normally you work with children aged 3 to 6 years. Two of the evivo volunteers are deployed here.
The „Helene von Hügel“ Catholic children’s centre is located in the north of Tübingen, surrounded by greenery. In addition to the kindergarten groups, there is also a daycare centre group with children aged 0 to 3. One evivo volunteer supports the teachers in a kindergarten group with children aged 3 to 6 and accompanies the children throughout the day.

Work:

We work from Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 17.00. The work is not complicated at all and is fun. Basically, you play with the children, help tidy up in the kitchen or put the dishes in the dishwasher. Throwing away the rubbish, keeping your group clean and helping with any activities the carers need.

Living:

You live with a host family that evivo finds for you. Usually, the organisation will look for a way to give you a home that is not so far away from your workplace, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Free time:

The weekends are your free time and you can go for a walk in the city or go on a bike tour on the various paths that exist in Tübingen. If you want to go into the city, you can take the bus, but that’s not necessary because everything is very close and you can cycle everywhere. However, if you want to go further, you should buy your train tickets in advance and plan them so that you can visit everything you want without any problems.
